Our Prisoner/Inmates' Rights group teamed up with Real Justice to create a petition calling on Fresno County commissioners to release low level offenders to protect public health! We have already seen COVID-19 outbreaks around the country including the outbreaks at Rikers Island in New York and at the Cook County Jail in Chicago.
Without a mass movement to pressure our elected officials to take serious steps to stop the spread, our inmates, jail workers, and Fresno community at whole are in danger of the virus.
Read, sign, and share this petition.

Fresno's jails are the worst among the nation, with inmates dying at record rates inside the Fresno county jail.
Mass incarceration has a history rooted in racism and classism, and it is time to end mass incarceration and compensate victims of the unjust "justice" system.
The constitution guarantees a right to a fair trial and due process. These rights are being violated.

Voting Rights - Know Your Rights with a Felony on Your Record
After being convicted of a felony, those with this conviction on their record can no longer vote unless they complete a lengthy process.
As law enforcement has routinely been found to target people of color disproportionately for traffic stops, etc...and whereas the judicial system has been found to target people of color disproportionately for severe and excessive punishments, it is no surprise that the origins of "no vote for people with felonies" as law originated with racism during the Jim Crow era.
Here is an ACLU post about just that: www.aclu.org/other/aclu-history-felon-disfranchisement-relic-jim-crow
However, people with a felony on their record might already be eligible to get their voting rights reinstated! Here's a list of requirements to become eligible to vote again, as found on the website for the CA Secretary of State: www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voting-resources/voting-california/who-can-vote-california/voting-rights-californians/
Here is an online checklist you can take to see if you are eligible to have your right to vote reinstated: www.sos.ca.gov/elections/restore-your-vote/
